  7. Modeler's Logbook allows you to conveniently record the facts about
  8. every flight you make with a number of aircraft on your Palm OS
  9. handheld!  Record a complete history of all your planes.  Save the
  10. date, flying site, weather conditions, duration, and other information
  11. for immediate recall.

  17. You may use this program on your own Palm OS device(s), but you are
  18. not permitted to distribute it to others.  Modeler's Logbook is

  21. haven't had any problems, we can't promise you won't!)

  25. Installation
  26.  
  27. To install Modeler's Logbook, you need three required files:
  28.  
  29.     mlogbook.prc
  30.  
  31.     either  CASLrt_pro.prc            for Palm IIIs and newer
  32.         or  CASLrt_5k.prc             for Palm 1000s and 5000s
  33.  
  34.     either  CASL_Palm_Utils_pro.prc   for Palm IIIs and newer
  35.         or  CASL_Palm_Utils_5k.prc    for Palm 1000s and 5000s
  36.  
  37. Use whatever means you have to install these files on your Palm (Palm
  38. desktop on Windows, pilot-xfer on Linux, etc.)  The CASL files are
  39. shared libraries used by CASL programs, so you may already have these
  40. files installed.  If so, additional CASL programs like Modeler's
  41. Logbook only take up a minimal amount of additional RAM.  See the CASL
  42. text file for more information about CASL.

  46. Planes & sites
  47.  
  48. Modeler's Logbook allows you to add up to 99 planes and 30 flying
  49. sites to choose from when recording logbook entries.  You can maintain
  50. your plane and site lists by renaming or deleting entries as needed;
  51. the Logbook will keep them sorted alphabetically.  Renames and deletes
  52. will NOT affect logbook entries that you have already entered.

  54. To add or edit a plane or site, choose Edit planes or Edit sites from
  55. the menu.  You may add an item to the list by tapping the New button,
  56. entering an identifying text, and tapping OK.  To rename an existing
  57. plane or site, select the item in the list, tap the Rename button and
  58. change the text, then tap OK.  To delete, select the item, tap the
  59. Delete button and answer 'Yes' to the delete question.

  63. Flights
  64.  
  65. Recording a flight is easy!  Just choose the plane you're flying, the
  66. site at which you're flying, use the sky, wind and temperature items
  67. to record the weather, and enter any notes you want to remember about
  68. the flight.  After the flight ends, you can record the duration from
  69. an outside timer, or have a friend use the built-in timer.  Modeler's
  70. Logbook remembers the details of your most recent flight, and uses
  71. them as the default values for your next entry, for easy recording of
  72. a series of flights.

  74. Timer controls appear on the flight entry form.  Use the start button
  75. to begin timing the duration of the flight.  Use the stop button to
  76. stop the timer.  The time will be saved with your flight information.

  80. Setting Filters

  82. After you have a considerable number of flights logged, it may become
  83. difficult to get a clear picture of the history of one aircraft or
  84. flying site.  By setting a filter on your logbook, you can view only
  85. the entries you are interested in.

  87. Choose the Filter option from the menu, and then choose a plane, site,
  88. or set a date to filter on.  When you OK the filter, Modeler's Logbook
  89. will display only the flights that qualify based on that filter value.
  90. All views and exports respect the filter setting.  To clear the
  91. filter, go back to the filter form and choose None.

  95. Exporting

  97. Export to a memo allows you to import your logbook entries into a
  98. spreadsheet or word processor for analysis or presentation.  You can
  99. also set a filter to restrict the exported data to one plane, flying
  100. site, or date.

  102. Set the filter first, if you intend to export only a portion of your
  103. data.  Then choose Export to memo from the menu.  The export will take
  104. a few seconds, and an activity monitor will let you know the Palm is
  105. working.  After the activity monitor disappears, you will find a new
  106. memo in the Memo app containing your data, ready for syncing with your
  107. desktop.

  109. After performing a normal Hotsync operation, you can open the
  110. Modeler's Logbook memo and copy the data into any other application.
  111. It's formatted to import into a spreadsheet without further editing.

  115. Registration
  116.  
  117. Use the trial version as long as you like.  It allows you to record up
  118. to 25 flights, enough to try out all the features of the program.  You
  119. can download it at http://computassist.hypermart.net/ml/.

  121. The registered version of Modeler's Logbook gives you room for 500
  122. flights, enough for a busy season of flying.  It also allows you to
  123. filter the data by plane, site, or date, and export to a memo, where
  124. you can then use other programs for presentation or analysis.
